Default 1960 Corvette Help

Hey guys,

I past a local shop today quite by accedent and looked into the garage. Well on the lift was a Corvette. Stopped by the shop later today, and found that it was a 1960 Corvette project car. The car was on a lift with tons of crap under it so I couldn't ask him to lower the car. Anyhow, this guy has had the car for 22 years, it needs some body work and a paint job. Its painted in an aqua color right now. Not the original paint, as there is some overspray on the back of the frame. He told me it has a black interior and an AM radio (I was thinking Wonderbar?) He said NOM 4 speed trans(does not know if its original trans or rear) The bottom of the car is heavily undercoated, no rust (that I can see), really solid underneather. The car needs a body off resto.

How much do you think its worth in the current condition?
How much is a 1960 Corvette worth done?

Thanks!

-Dave

Too many restored cars. What it needs is a fluids change, wash and wax and drive it.

Any Corvette is only worth what you will pay to own it, not to resell or invest in but keep.

The car is for sale. I will ask him to clear below the lift so the car can come down off the lift. I will take good pictures (with a real camera) and then post here. I understand some peoples feelings about how cars or items are only worth what someone is willing to pay but, I know next to nothing about solid axle cars, so I am turning to the guys who know the most.

Thanks for you help.

Cameras don't always show the true color, but that could be original with just a repaint.

I think you will see he wants close to 30-35 for it. He has a shop, he knows what they are worth and if he held it 22 years he isnt going to give it away now. Good Luck and maybe you will get a great deal.

He says it's solid underneath and appears to have no rust, but needs a body off restoration ? I don't get it.

Look at what's hanging on the engine hoist in the first pic....cane and a quick seat. Maybe he can't drive it anymore? I hope he sells it to someone who will drive it and care for it.

How many C1's are in this same predicament. I drive mine every weekend and love it.

Regards,

Fred

Doesn't this month's Corvette Enthusiast magazine have a C1 price guide?

my numbers reflect the car having either a soft top or a hard top or both....without, you need to deduct about $2500-$3500. Likewise I am assuming a complete interior, regardless of condition, if you are missing seats, then deduct another $2500-$3000.

good luck

Make sure to get the car out in the open and check the bodywork. You might want to see if someone in your area who knows C1 can take a look at it. The bodywork on it could be extensive and not a minor fix.

Just got back from the shop. Lets just say my excitement was a lot stronger before I looked at it for a second time. Started taking pictures of the car and asked the guy if I could borrow his ladder and open up drive side door. Well, to my disappointment, there is a New York State sticker in place of the VIN tag. Yep. Stolen Recovery. Now being a stolen recovery, and having a NOM what's it worth in present condition? I can't get photobucket to work, I'll try to post pics again later.

in my opinion no VIN, no purchase....less than $20k now.....be worth more to part it out.

I passed on a 63SWC for $25k that had similar issues with the title/VIN...

That was exactly my thoughts also. I am a stickler for originality bad enough the car has a NOM.

Thanks for your help.

I just bought a 58 Driver and have about $40 into it. I do have the right motor but I'm never going to waste the money to make it perfect.

Put it too you this way, your gonna spend $30 on something that needs a LOT of work. From the pictures I think your in a $35,000 car give or take and like everyone else is saying. How bad do you want it ?
Good luck and enjoy !!!

$22K-$25K if it's got a top with it. State issued VINs spook the dealers/investors, but it shouldn't scare you away if you're just looking for a driver & it could allow you to climb into a decent C1 for much less money. As long as it's got a clean title that matches the state VIN you're good. As far as the issuing state is concerned, it's already been recovered, processed through their system and approved for road duty again. If you're really concerned about it, there are legal & legitimate procedures established for getting an accurate VIN tag reproduced and affixed for an extra $500 or so with police assistance.
