I have had my 60, for almost 35 years now. I'm on my 6th engine,ALL of which had the same problems you are now having. I have a shelf full of clutch/flex fans, drilled/no thermostats, rodded original radiators to Desert Coolers, and every other quick fixes there have been over the years. I then purchased an aluminium radiator from Dewitts and, problem solved. The 283 I have in there now is bored out .060 and still runs cool. I would go with this first. Again, just my opinion.

I'm still curious to hear if ddsJoseph solved his run-hot problem by trying whatever fixes he decided to pursue?

mine will do that when i've over filled the radiator tank. maybe someone else has a different idea???

Kinda' refreshing to read of run hot issues (I'm sittin' here in my great room on a typical Michigan day)

Weather for Clinton, MI
30°F
Cloudy
Wind: SE at 14 mph
Humidity: 80%Sun

40°F | 34°FMon

43°F | 26°FTue

31°F | 23°FWed

33°F | 21°F

This topic does give me hope that there is a spring around the corner.

All good advice to get to the heart of your overheating. Keep the word KISS in front of you in your approach (although that aluminum radiator will be on your list).

Good luck!

Regards,

Jim

The reason it pukes when you shut it down is while it's running the fan is pulling air through the radiator and the pump is moving the coolant. When you stop the engine, it continues to warm a bit more with no cooling ability. The pressure increases due to additional heat build and it pukes.

A new correct cap should cure that.

Check your timing and try replacing the Radiator Cap. I did both and don't have the problem anymore in my car.

Or maybe your engine is really hot. I suspect it's just overfull.

I run my '65 2* BTDC, right where the books says to. I have a very old radiator cap on it. May be original and I have a copper radiator in it. No problems.
