I am starting restoration on my first 67 with a/c. All components are in the car. It has been stored since 1982. I want to use the original compressor, condensor, dehydrator. I would appreciate information on someone reputable to make any repairs/restoration to these components, Thanks, CD
Completely rebuilt my AC system last winter, including everything in the dash as well. Classic Auto Air (as noted in previous post) rebuilt the A6 compressor using ceramic seals (at my request). Was not cheap but first class rebuild and excellent customer service.
I was missing a lot of parts. For the record I spent $1800 in parts and about 100 hours of my time.
I did find an old time AC shop in the area to fill it with R12. Look for an AC shop that works on restorations and classic cars. They will have the equipment and freon to recharge the system using R12.f Again, not cheap, but heck, you got a 67 vette so you already know that.
Good advice so far. I'll emphasize! R-12 is the best choice for your C-2. These systems have a few design problems that work best with the more efficient R-12. The biggest fault is the POA. And, POA Valves are adjustable and can be tested at home with your Air Compressor. (Do your homework and it all becomes perfectly clear). The POA must be working properly or your system will not cool to Maximum. Also the Expansion Valve as original is available from Old Air Products. You want the one with the "J" Sensor. Check out the ACForum.com, search word "Mitch" for lots of good info. Al W.
Agree with others regarding Classic Auto Air Mfg. in Florida. They can rebuild and test your A-6 compressor and POA valve, and rebuild your drier with new dessicant. They may also be able to clean and test the condenser.
If you need a new condenser, Long Island Corvette now advertises that they sell a correct reproduction. They also have an excellent reproduction of the brass heater shutoff valve for AC cars. Their compressor decal is also VERY close to the original. I purchased the shutoff valve and decal as spares for my original ones.
Let us know if you have any other AC questions. What engine do you have?
