Default Question for cooling system experts

What is the function of the smaller hose coming off the radiator and going to the fill can? Can it be bypassed or eliminated?

I have a custom set-up with an aluminum radiator and I don't want to run this extra hose if I can get away with it.

Thanks in advance.

not necessarily overflow, but more so to vent the air out of the top of the radiator because the radiator filler in is the expansion tank, not the radiator.

this makes sure that the radiator is completely full of water at all times.

No, overflow goes from the tank to the ground. This is the other small line to the top of the radiator. Thanks anyway, I have my answer.
