I was wondering about the choices made for electronic tachs, specifically those that are MSD compatible
Where you have them mounted that are not in the cluster and/or which manufacture choices that were made for mounting in place of the original tach within the cluster.
Check the archives on this one, it's been discussed numerous times with alot of good info being offered. My quick answer is I mounted a Autometer tach on my steering column and turned it so it was in front of the old tach. This worked until I decided to see if I could adapt the guts of the tach into the stock housing, it took a little work but it was worth it. I did the modification without having to alter my stock housing and the tach works fine. If you don't want to do the work yourself then there are companys out there that will do it for you. Expect to pay around $300.00.
Good luck
