Default Side Cove

My 59 is Snowcrest white with red interior.
The side coves are Roman Red and the guy said that was correct. All info I have found on the internet says in 59 side coves were either white or silver. Wanted to know if red coves were a 59 option.
Thanks

According to the NCRS Spec Guide there were 2 options for Snowcrest White in the 59 model year. Option #515 was with a silver cove and #510 was solid white.

Thanks for the info. That's what I thought. I've seen several but I figured they painted it red just for their liking.
Again, Thanks

I'm too young to know personally, but those who would know have reported on this forum that often the dealer would paint the cove in a contrasting color as part of the new-car-sale, if the new owner wanted.

So based on that, it's easy to see how after almost 50 years, many people would think that non-standard colors were actually "original".

COPO only. From the TMJG: "Exceptions can be made only with thorough factory (not dealer!) documentation (examples: white body with red fender-door cove depression)." But it should have been an option - the red coves with the red interior looks sweet!

I agree it looks great however when I repaint I will probably go with the Inca Silver coves. I saw a nearly perfect one on Haggerty auction go for 88K...It had the dual carbs on it. Very nice!

I restored my 59, the coves were blue and I changed them to Inac Silver as you are doing. I am now working on a 67 Vette rod. LS1 4l60E Coil Overs and C4 suspension. We are actually making the fiberglass body, started only with a tub. It is time consuming but it's fun. We have the mold for the 67 BB hood and have the hood made, we are in the process of fiberglassing the molds for the front and rear clip now. Hope to have the molds made by dec 15th. What you have heard about fiberglassing However I get testy with the grinding down of the new fiberglass and end up useing bondo is some cases. After it's painted one can't tell the difference. If you can do it with out Bondo it's the bvest way. Good Luck

sounds like a big project but HECK,,, that's what makes it fun.
I'm restoring a 70 challenger 440 six pack and it was a heap that I now think I might should have passed on but It's at the paint shop now.
I never knew how much Bud Light it took to restore a car but I do now!!
And it's a whole bunch!

As a option, two tone Vettes were only 30% of the production no matter what the color. Turning this statement around means 70% were of a solid color when new.
