Yes that may be true but it doesn't make it right to do it now. Most of us learned something from their mistakes then that it was the wrong thing to do. You don't see anyone adding flares or an extra tail light today to a C-2 do you? No they are removing them and putting them back to the way the factory intended them to be.
Don't forget now that these were 2nd generation Corvettes. It was in the early stages of the Corvette. We know better now. You would think that anyone owning a C-5 or C-6 today especially the ones belonging to a forum like this wouldn't repeat the same mistakes.
I won't go as far as you do, in saying these mods are "wrong". That is called peer pressure (or government). I would rather think that the majority of us do what we want (within legal and tasteful limits - well, maybe some not all that tasteful), but we still can have some uniqueness to our vehicles. Seeing the same looking Vettes with just different colors is boring at best. Why don't we all just join the NCRS?
Adding a "split" to a C5 or C6 can be seen as a form of humor or respect for the 63s. Not something to be ridiculed.
IN OTHER WORDS, JUST LET THEM DO ANY STUPID THING THEY WANT.

I am not saying that you shouldn't do what you want. I am just saying to learn from others mistakes when it came to modifying their Corvettes. Hey I have different tailights lenses on my C-3 but all it takes is a Phillips screwdriver to put the factory ones back on. When you start doing flaring, duck tails and what have you its like a Tatoo it doesn't just wash off after time. That tape on Split Window Stinger Ecklers sells for a C-6 well to each his own I guess.
Not for nothing but it still bugs me to see a C-2 or C-3 Corvette with a set of those Hooker Chrome Side Pipes attached driving around. Just doesn't seem or look right to me but then again I am a old timer anymore I guess. I pretty much just like what the factory provided for these cars when they were new.
A true customized C6 might be cool, but a $3 piece of plastic junk from China, sticky-taped to the back window is just lame.
The only redeeming thing is that it can be ripped off and the residue removed in less than 10 minutes.
That's exactly what I had in mind when I made the post. There are Modifications, and then there are MODIFICATIONS done to cars! Hey, 3 tail lights is kinda cool, LED's for the tail lights are cool. Flared fenders can be cool. There's alot of things that can be done to our cars that are cool.
Even if an attempt was made to put a real "Split" in a C5, that might be cool... . But colored stick on tape is right up there with pink plastic heart shaped steering wheels imbedded with glitter, or fake blowers riveted to a hood.
I don't blame Ecklers, they are pandering to someone, all retailers do it. I'd like to know who the moron is that is actually doing this to their 60-$80K car? I think this stuff is beneath even JC Whitney!
