Default Replacing 66 steering box

Need some advise here for my 66 Restorod.I am planning on replacing my original steering box with one made by AGR sold by Summit Racing ($329.95) and upgrading the steering column to a chrome Flaming River tilt model.I believe that the ratio I have now is 15.5:1,manual was 16.5:1.I have power steering so I automatically got the faster ratio when I bought the car new.I want the steering to be quicker and AGR offers a 12:1 and a 14:1.I generally find that when you buy something there is always an upside and a downside to a change;the upside is that the steering will respond faster, the downside is that turning the wheel will require more effort with the faster ratio. This increased effort may be exaggerated by the fact that I replaced the original 16" teak wheel with a 14" Grant wheel.Have any of you had any experiences on this change,if so please respond.(The Summit guy told me that the car may be too "darty" with the 12:1 and suggested the 14:1 as a compromise.)

All 66 steering boxes are the same, faster steering is controlled by the position of the linkage ( if I remember correctly it is the Pittman arm in the center like, someone chime in if I have this wrong ). AS far as to fast a ratio I can not comment, but someone else must have an opinion.

All midyear steering gears are 16:1. Overall ratio is 20.2:1 with the tie rods in the rear holes (manual setting), and 17.6:1 with the tie rods in the forward (fast/power steering) holes.

Not sure I understand the difference between the overall ratio and the steering gears ratio. Why are they different?

The ratio of the steering gear compares the input shaft to the output shaft (sector shaft, which has the pitman arm on it). The overall ratio adds the effect of the difference in effective lever arm lengths between the pitman arm and the steering arms on the spindles.

As usual, John is a know-it-all and i only mean that in the best way possible!!!

The gear boxes are all the same but the ratio changes by which hole you put your tie rod end in in the steering arm on the knuckle!!
