Default Quick Question About a C1 Emblem

I bought this emblem off EBay; it came in an old GM envelope. It's probably from the '57-'58 era, and its about 3.5 inches wide.

My question is: Is the top flat indentation stock, or is it imperfect. If it's supposed to be this way, what part of the car did it appear on?

Thanks in advance.

it is a nose/trunk emblem for '56 / '57 corvettes. the flat spot is there to keep the emblem from turning when installed in the chrome bezel.

It may have come in an old box but the emblem is different than the originals

the emblem you have pictured is not '56/'57. it is a later '58-? emblem.

I know the Corvette font is later but I'm understanding that the flags sit lower in the "V" on original emblems.....no????

not that i am aware of. the '56/'57 emblems i have seen all have the same layout. but there have been variations in the coloring of the brightwork within the emblem. some are more silver than others. GM had a service replacement emblem in which the brightwork was a dulled gold.
my originals were identicle to the one pictured in the original post. but they were the silvery brightwork. my GM replacements bought in 1973 were a little more gold, but shiney like the one in the original post.
i see the '56/'57 emblems on ebay all the time in the GM wrappers. all three versions. bright silver. bright gold and dull gold.

That is for sure a 56-57 nose/trunk emblem. It consists of 2 pieces: emblem and bezel.
30+yrs ago, I ordered several extra emblems and spare parts for my 56 when they were still available from Chev parts dept.
Here is my 56 with emblems and an original off of my 56 and the replacement emblem from Chev.
The emblem with the darker gold V is the original from my car. The emblem with the lighter gold V is the replacement. I have also placed bezels beside the emblems and one of the bezels is upside down to show the flat for properly positioning the emblem.

Thank you.
I bought this emblem a few years ago, I finally found out which year it's for, and its not a defect.
