you don't say what year car. BUT, if it is an original engine for your car, then it should have the car's VIN # stamped on the pad in front of the passenger side head.
Bill
Its not the original engine unless your car is a 62 full size Chebby with powerglide and A/C.
The "SA" suffix on your engine designates 1962 327 Powerglide, a/c, full size Chevrolet.
Sorry about not posting the year its a 1963 Impala Sport Sedan, when I purchased the car it was in Arizona and for some reason AZ DMV removed the original VIN # and placed a Arizona VIN #. I bought the car pretty much in cherry condition, but they removed the valve covers and installed a chrome dress up kit on the engine. I can post what I found on the cowl tag:
2D - Detroit Michigan
Style 63-1839 Body VN 12699
Trim: 842 Paint: 912
ACC. E 2CKMY 3P 28
The SA code was also used in '63 for 327/250hp, P/G & A/C. Since the engine was assembled near the end of Feb and the body was built the 4th week of Feb, I'd believe it's probably the original engine.
