I've had my 63 for almost 4 years. When I bought it , the dealer told me the the carpeting was brand new and that he bought it from Al Knoch. It looked new and still does. My question is the texture of the carpet. The threads seem thick or rough. I've seen others, even pictures of cars from this forum where the carpeting seems more plush. Even if it is an Al Knoch product, I know that it was a cheapo installation. It really doesn't fit properly and there isn't any backing or padding on the carpet. Any ideas where I can find a better quality carpet?
I just installed this carpet from Corvette America. At first I thought it was kind of stiff and coarse. After installing it over Corvette America's rubber-backed jute carpet insulation kit, it is much softer and more plush.

You might try Auto Custom Carpets, Inc.--their website is www.accmats.com
Also, if you want to be "correct", I don't believe '63 carpets had any padding or jute under the carpet.
When I installed my carpet, I also noticed the cheap quality of the material. Now don't forget we are comparing this old style carpet to today's Hi Tech stuff. I don't know if this is how it originally came. When you buy the carpet, it says something about 80\20 etc....
...Made of authentic 80/20 material, cut and sewn-type carpet with latex or foam backings as original. Features include heel pad, dimmer switch grommet, and correct binding.
I also used Al Knoch and the separate padding that must go along with it. Here are some pics.
Dont forget about proper installation. Use a professional to install it. DIY may not be a good idea if you dont have a spray glue gun. The spray can adhesives just dont do the trick.
Notice in the last photo, there are two different color carpets. The part covering the jack is the darker old carpet and the rest is new.
Also take a look at this site. It seems kind of interesting http://www.autotrimsupply.com/CarCat...RVETTE1965.htm

Carpeting like seats change every year with the grain and patterns of seats and the materials for carpeting. There is plush and 80/20 loop and even tuxedo carpeting and some times one is correct or even both in the later cars. However a person may for several reasons ask for the wrong material or be given the wrong material because of looks, feel or sometimes cost. And different year carpeting may fit each other as do door panels but not correctly. They are not like home carpets picking out what you like because GM has already determined that. Your 63 actually has a couple more carpet pieces than the 64-67 cars. But dont worry about that fact if it`s not a contender for Bloomington or a NCRS classification,

I've installed a dozen carpets with spray can 3-M General Adhesive and it worked fine, including old Mustangs with their highly pre-molded carpet that likes to lose its shape after being rolled up in a shipping box. If you can't use this stuff a spray glue gun will get you in trouble too, just faster.

When you purchase Corvette America carpets, the box comes from Auto Custom Carpets. Willcox Corvette has the best prices.

Thanks for all of the replies. It sounds like I have some options. As I stated in my initial post, the carpeting that's in the car now looks OK as far as wear, color, etc. It's just not as plush as I would like it. It looks like another project will be added to my wish list. Thanks again.

I just installed my carpet in the 67 and I'm very pleased with it. I have bought several items from Wilcox, including carpet, for my 67 restoration and have been VERY happy with the results. Didn't know them before I started the restoration but it's hard to beat their service AND product. Norm and Joe at Wilcox answered several questions as this is my first ever restoration. Thanks Norm and Joe!!
As Ironcross stated the carpet changed every year. The carpet for 63 and 64 cars is a more coarse carpet than the later years. That's why I had Al Knoch make me a 63 carpet front set for deep wells using 76 Buckskin carpet. They can make magic happen down there in Texas.
I have a 64 Vette Conv.
Since I'm not looking ar Bloomington and it seens that the C-2 years after 64 had better carpet can I order 65 or 66 carpet and have it fit?

Absolutely. Along with the front custom carpet I had them provide the rear carpet for my coupe as a 65 - 67 using the same carpet as the front was supplied in. The rear dimension is the same in all years, I just did not want to install the carpet in nine or so pieces like the 63 had originally.
Your best bet for satisfaction if you want one years style applied to another years fit and quality, you should call one of the carpet and interior manufactures that also does custom work and deal directly with them. "BADBIRDCAGE" and "Rens" post and reply suggested the Al Knoch company satisfying that question as that's all they do. Research them by the web or call. .....
My brother ordered ACC carpet for his 65 cyclone and the fit was terrible. A trim shop told him that ACC use to make top notch carpet sets but a bunch of their top execs died in a plane crash, and their quality has gone down hill ever since. Don't know if that is true or not,but he ended up getting his carpet from some mill in Georgia. It fit very nice and seemed to be a better quality carpet.
