Default Differential Decode

Can anyone help me decode the numbers on my differential. It is on a 63 however this is not the first non original part that I have found.

3830303

3818753-N

now the tricky part....

AM 8 21 64 stamped on the bottom. I think the first two letters are the gear ratio. The 8 is barely legible and the 6 is also barely legible.

Their is also another casting date either B 8 4 or 8 8 4. I would think it would be the later if the stamp is 8/21/64.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks!

What about the date? Is the casting date a letter (B) or a number (8)? Just curious.

The first character of the date code on a Saginaw casting is always a letter, not a number.

Then I guess the casting code is B 4 4 and the stamp is a 3 21 64 and not an 8. Seems like a long time (over a month) from the time it was cast to the time it was stamped/built?

That's not unusual - inventory control was very sloppy in those days, and it could be as little as a day or as much as a couple of months between casting at Saginaw and machining/assembly at Warren.
