I like the dual glass pack set up,would like to hear how that sounds.I still would like to know what is muffler of choice for rear exhaust ? I have used flow master 3 chamber on other cars and like the sound.
thanks,Daryl.
...Stay tuned to MasterDave's posts. He's in the process of altering his sidepipes with some 'glas to quiet his down a little. He should be posting again soon (I hope) with results.
They're sidepipes you pu__ies! They're supposed to be loud, that's the point!
The difference. . .
I'm driving my Vette with pu__ie sidepipes down the street and as I pass, people on the sidewalk say "wow look at that old Corvette".
or. . .
I'm driving my Vette with 2.5" Sweet Thunder inserts down the street and a block in front of me, people are turning, looking and pointing at the old Corvette that's coming.
As I am still shopping for a Midyear coupe I am really set on a sidepipe car. The debate of sweet factory sidepipe sound vs. obnoxiously loud, can't hear my radio nor wife has brought out a lot of interesting solutions and modifications that I would consider. As far as having sidepipes, to me it's a step closer to the sound/look/feel of the legendary GT racing cars of the 50's and 60's (Grand Sport Corvettes, Cobras, C and D-Type Jaguars,etc.). Though they may not suitable for a 6 hour trip it does allow the mind to wander as you scream past the Hummer in the lane next to you (providing you picture that Hummer as red, with at least two camshafts and Borrani wire wheels) and if if the driver yells at you in disgust, what the hell, you can't hear him anyway !

Mine are done and installed, will post soundbite soon as my son shows me how.
OK, here is my 2 cents or less opinion on sidepipes: They have the right look but the sound is like an old pickup truck with really rotten mufflers and pipes. Sorry guys, the sound is not the deep rumble of the newer Magna Flows or other LOUD DEEP exhaust systems. I really don't mind loud if it sounds good to the ears. I just think the CHAMBERED sound is not sweet to the ears. The problem in my opinion ( I know, nobody cares) is the TUNE not the loudness. My 18 year old son totally agrees. He loved the LOUD Magna Flows I have on my 32 Chevy powered Ford. He says my Corvette has a broken-down truck sound. Not cool he tells me and I agree. So, go ahead and tell me I am NUTS (I already know that by the way). PS...the crossover I added did help that anoying bark, just not enough. Flame on!

I have a pretty lumpy cam and, at idle, mine sounds like a row of sweet-sounding Harleys idling. That's not the volume, so much as the rhythm of the valve timing.
Under acceleration or at speed it might be a different story.
I heard a theory once that a major component of exhaust sound is the actual operation of the valves, which is then modified by the pipes and mufflers. I have no idea about the validity of this statement.

I have the LT-1 cam and at idle it sounds ok, especially since I added the crossover pipe. The cam has a big lopey sound which I really like.

Magna flows??? Yeah.. my neighbor put them on his minivan!!
Youthtube is a technological marvel I have yet to master. (I think you may be confusing me with the C6 crowd).
However, I do know a buddy who is always screwing around with that new fangled camera/computer stuff and I'll see if I can get it him to come over & show me how to do it.
Unfortunately, they are predicting a bunch of snow around here this weekend, and Old Yeller really don't much like firing up & going outside her warm doghouse when the weather is cold & wet, so we'll see....but maybe we can do it in the garage & it'll sound OK (assuming we don't die from carbon monoxide).
great looking car Tom. Your muffler shop did a nice job. I have a friend that did the same thing on a 76 that he had put a big block in. It did help some. It wasn't quiet, but it was better than the chambered pipe.

Obviously you have never experienced a straight through high performance muffler from them. Would add 10 to 15 HP over these chambered. But, you go ahead and put them on YOUR MINI-VAN
I have experienced them, and when the car show is over and everyone starts there car, it's all you here!! And when a vette with side pipes starts up you can here it over all the others.... Chambered exhaust ... why??? Because it's all part of the corvette experience!!! Lemme check to see if e bay is now selling magna flows for lawnmowers!!!
Just for your information, I know you have not experienced them. I can tell by your comments. Do your homework before making uneducated comments. Magna Flow is one of the best hi pro systems available. They are not like Flo-Masters that cause turbulence for sound only. They are a straight through system. Educate yourself and check their web site or ask others for opinions. I have built a few hot rods in my day and they are by far the best performing and sounding system I have had the pleasure of using. No, I have not built lawn mower motors like you so sorry, you have the advantage over me there

Thankyou, Russ. As soon as the snow melts off the driveway, I'll fire her up and get those side pipes to purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr; and then I'll figure out how to post it on Youtube.
Ken,
I put 3 inch exhaust with an h- pipe and 3 chamber flow masters on my GSX and camaro both sounded great, nice idle and good sound when accelerating.I am going to keep the side pipes on for now.Hopefully someone will find a good fix for the sound issues.
Daryl.
The sound is much better when the RPM goes up. I think you are on to something here. Maybe the crossover will help the popping at idle. Would like to see how it performs on the road and if it limits the high RPMs? Much better sound though when you rev it up a little. How do you like it? Sound better to you or the same?
