The trim on the vent windows of my 63 is pitted. I'm torn between repair or replace. The pits aren't bad. They are very small, but their noticible. Is there a product/process that can be used to remove minor pits? If not, does anyone recommend a vendor with quality parts?
Are you talking about the actual vent window frame? If the chrome on it is pitted you'll have to have the frames rechromed. Mine were around $200 each plus all of the weather stripping that has to be replaced.
Other than using some Mother's or a similar type chrome polish I don't know of any way. Maybe some of the others have some tricks up their sleeves.
Charlie Santorelli used to restore vent window assemblies, don't know if he still does or not. You just pulled yours out and sent the whole thing to him and he redid everything and sent them back ready to bolt in. It wasn't cheap, it seems like it was several Benjamins apiece.
Charlie of Seatbelt Sity did the vent windows on my 66 coupe about two years ago. They came out like new. He rechromed all parts and replaced the weatherstrip and both gears. He is a character. He reminds me of my friends from Brooklyn. Jerry
