C1 Seat Upgrade?
I have a non-stock '60 which is in need of seats (originals are shot). I would also like an upgrade over the originals - more side support. Has anyone out there replaced their C1 seats with seats from another vehicle or aftermarket seats? Have any of you modified your stock seats for better support? My seat cushion frames are OK but the springs are shot.
Any suggestions or info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve.

Re: C1 Seat Upgrade? (SRC)
Steve,
Mine are stock so I can't really answer your question about non-stock seats. Just wanted to let you know there are complete seat rebuilding kits available that has all new springs. Of course you still end up with the same "uncomfortable" seats that really let you know how uncomfortable they are after a couple of hundred miles or so. :(
Good luck,

I am putting '84 seats in my '62 frame conversion. I cut off the head rests and will be recovering in leather. I wanted to use the '84 power seat tracks but they were too high so I grafted on the '62 frame rails. Also the pic shows the stock steering wheel which I am replacing with a 14" wheel.
I sent you an email at your old address. Just wondering if you received it? I wanted to know what kind of wheels you used on your car?

That looks really nice. They fit good. Very professional and finished. One of the complaints I always had about the solid axle cars was the seats. I didn't realize something like this was feasible. Keep posting pictures as you progress with the project.

Do thoes '84 seats wind up giving more room or less room? Looks like they put you further back. Are they lower, too? 6'6" guys wanna know!

I'm not sure that the '84 seats give any more leg room than the stock seats. I never really measured the seat height but I am guessing that due to the way I mounted the '84 seats I am sitting about the same distance off the floor as with the '62 seats. Tomorrow, if I don't forget, I will put the driver seat all the way back, take some measurements, and let you know.

I have attached a little sketch to show the '84 seat measurements in relation to the '62 floor and firewall. The 47.5" was measured from the seat back to just below the steering column on the vertical part of the firewall. If you put the seat back straight up you can move the seat rearward about another inch, but I like the seat back raked back when I drive.

Charles-
Those numbers are about the same as my original seats. Thanks for the info! I assume the 5 1/4" measurement is on the inside rather than the raised lip at the side of the seat. Any idea which years they used this seat design ('84-x)? How much do you think a set would cost? Now look what you've started! :)

Correct. The 5.25" measurement is at the center of the seat. Sorry, i don't know that much about those "new" Corvettes, but I would guess that any 84-96 seat could be made to fit. Just remember that these seats are not nearly as wide as the C1's so you will have about a 2" gap on each side of the seat. Also, since I cut the headrests off, I moved the tilt actuator lever to a place behind the seat so as to retain the ability to tilt the seats forward.
