Default Rebuilt Steering Box

Hello,

I sent my steering box off last week ti get it rebuilt. After asking here on the forum and researching I decided to go with Gary Ramadei in Conn. Not sure who recommended him but GARY IS THE BEST!! I know it has been posted in the past but when someone is good at what they do it never hurts to brag on them a little. If I remember right the box shipped out on Friday the 14th. Gary e-mailed on the 19th to say he received it. I told him no rush with Christmas and everything and he said he would let me know. That night I got an e-mail with pictures of the box and all the parts inside. Gary explained what he would do and basically how he did it. Gary made sure I was aware of everything that was going on. Total I believe I got 14-15 e-mails from gary about the box. He said guys want different finishes on the boxes and he offers several choices. Since I was going to have my car judged he said the way it came out was bare metal, so he blasted it and then put spindle oil on it to help delay surface rust. He mentioned I would have to stay on top of it and reoil as needed. I am going to post them so others can see the detail he goes to with each box. As I mentioned Gary received the box on the 19th and he had it ready on the 23rd but because of Christmas will ship today. I am very happy with the pictures and can't wait to get it back and try it out. If others are wanting steering boxes or differentials rebuilt Gary is your guy. Here is his information:

Gary Ramadei

Ph. 203-776-2813 ext. 139

E-mail: Gary.RAMADEI@radiall.com

I never knew Gary before he rebuilt my gearbox. However he is a great example of how caring and helpful the people in the Corvette Nation are. Without this board my 67 restoration would probably still be a dream but with the help of many of you that dream is almost a reality. I sincerely thank each of you.

Take care and Happy "Vettin"
Shooter

PS Here's the pictures of the steering box before, during and after that Gary sent to me. I also posted a picture of the 67 I'm restoring that the box is going in and also a picture of my wife's 03 Anniversary.

Gary did my steering box as well on my 66 and you are absolutely right in everything you said about him and his work. It's nice to find a real craftsman and a gentleman to deal with. Regards, Marv

Shooter,

Not to downgrade Gary's work, but until you actually try the rebuilt box, isn't it a little early to sing his praises?

Now Marv has a good reason to!

Plasticman,

Besides the e-mails I also talked to Gary about a half-dozen times while he was in the process of rebuilding my gearbox. There's guys in EVERY profession that talk bull**** to cover up their lack of knowledge, Gary's not one of them. And at 56 I've seen my fair share of them. Gary tells you what he's going to do and sends you pictures of every step and part. That's alot of trouble on his part if he doesn't do top quality work. I'll take the chance and sing his praise. Worrying the finished product isn't what he guarantees it to be is the least of my concerns.

Take care,
Shooter

Gary rebuilt my box and it made the car drive like new! The steering is tight and responsive. I too was very impressed with his communication.

The steering box rebuild was worth every penny I paid and I will send him work in the future.

Gary is FIRST CLASS!

Hey Plasticman, you're right! The proof is seeing the end product installed and operational. My box not only looked great, it works like new as well. The bonus is....working with Gary is a breath of fresh air. He DOES keep you informed through the whole process. Gary did my box and mine was a **tch to work on as the PO had WELDED the spline to the shaft in the box. The lines of communication are initiated by Gary. You are kept up to date as he works on your box.

Plasticman, he does great work at a fair price. Very thorough. Check his stickies at this competitor's site on "how to do it". He encourages those who have the inclination to do it themselves, but do it right. His handle is GTR1999.

My plans are to have Gary do my control arms, hopefully in the spring.

Sorry if this sounds like a personal endorsement....wait a minute...it is, and I don't apologize for it. Give Gary a try. You'll like the experience.

Regards,

Jim

Dyadon,

ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER!!

That's what others have said also about the way the steering responds with the rebuilt box, I told Gary it'll almost feel like power steering compared to what it was before.

Take care,
Shooter

Jim,

Posts such as yours are why I decided to have Gary rebuild my box. There are different levels of getting a job done. As you mentioned if an owner wants to try rebuilding the box himself Gary will walk him through it. He's a Corvette owner himself and tries to promote the hobby to others.

GREAT ENDORSEMENT!!

He is MORE than a mechanic, he is a "craftsman".

Gary rebuilt my steering box last winter as well. His communication is great along with the quality of his work. I drove it close to 7,000 miles this summer without any problems. Cost to rebuild it was $284.00.
