It is especially helpful to setup the advance curves, but also to show up irregular spark output (point type dist's. are especially vulnerable to irregular spark due to the point cam being worn, or a poor point set allowing point float at high RPMs).
Sure glad I got mine for almost next to nothing (back in the 80's).

I guess it falls into nitch between production quantity and custom one off. I see a lot of off the shelf parts and some tool work plus the LED displays. Concidering the time and cost of materials, the price is about right. Too much $ for the average car guy but a shop, maybe.
