My new carpeting arrived today from Wilcox. I was surprised that there were 19 pieces. (63 roadster) The old stuff was only 8 or 9. Is there a trick or home remedy to making sure that everything is tight and secure? Especially around the wheel wells. I have some clamps that I can use on the panel behind the seats. The flat surfaces will be fine. Also, is the spray adhesive effected by temperature? It's about 55 now, but I don't want to rush the install. Temps later in the week will only be high 30's. It appears that I might have to trim the insulation slighly. Is this normal? I assume that you shouldn't have to trim the carpet.
I haven't replaced the carpet on my 65 yet, but when I did my 73 I had to trim every single piece.
Save your old carpet for a rough template.
I had good luck using 3M Super 90 spray adhesive. Expensive, but worth it. It sets up in minutes, I stacked a bunch of shop manuals against the side of the wheel wells to keep it tight. The 3M Super 77 did not work at all.
Thanks guys. My old carpet was Al Knoch, new is Wilcox. I'm thinking of going to a plumbing supply store at lunch and buying the glue that plumbers use. I can brush it on as thick or thin as I want. It seems like you install the pieces from the outside in, beginning with the wheel wells.
