I am currently working on my 65 Coupe and will have to replace the rivets in several areas like the tunnel, floor and grille areas. Where can I get tooling to put the domed head on the rivets? There are several sized rivets as well.
A rivet set is pretty easy to make. It requires a drill bit, the size of your rivet head. Just drill the depth of the head into a block of steel or body dolly, and use an air rivet gun on the bottom end of the rivet.
Aircraft suppliers can also provide rivet compressors that are not air operated. They simply squeeze the rivet bottom until it mushrooms out.
They also come with a variety of rivet "sets" for crimping.
Just got done completely redoing all channels and seals in both doors. Vent window upper hinge is a rivet. The front side window channel is also riveted in place. I found a hand rivet tool and dies for the rivet I was using at Hanson Rivrts. They have a website but you can't order online. I called and talked to Bill and he set up the dies for the truss head and flat head rivets for the tool I selected. He was very helpful. Riveting tool was not cheap but dies were about $13..00 a peice. Website is www.hansonrivet.com. Might check them out.
