Default need some help guys......

Hi guys and gals! As you see by my name, I usually hang out in the C5 sections. I need some help with a C2 project though and I figured this is the best place to start. My neighbor and I recently accuired a
'67 roadster. It's a former SCCA modified production car, full cage, short windscreen etc. Much like the original GS roadster. We're going to probably do a frame off and start over. What we have been having trouble with is locating a front clip with flared wheel wells. We would also like to have the non flip headlights and the plexiglass lenses also. We will be replacing the rear quarters also and need flared wheel wells there too. Stock pieces are not a problem (we live only 30 miles from Ecklers). We may have to use stock items and just add flares which we are willing to do, but can't locate them either. Any help would be appreciated........ Once we get started, I'll post some pics...

Thanks in advance
Jim

Why not put Grand Sport body panels on it ?? Otherwise, I saw some flares on eBay a couple days ago.

If you are going for a "correct" vintage restoration (to SCCA rules in effect at the time), the flares will have to "have the same appearance as viewed from the side as the stock fenders".

You guys are GREAT!!! Just what we've been looking for. Not sure which way we will go yet. Looks like this is going to be a long term project. My neighbor runs a small body shop and does some custom paint work for the local hot rod clubs. He has a rotisserie also. Should be fun, but expensive Thanks again folks..........Jim

You need to figure what you are doing with it. If you want to vintage race it, you will need a stock looking fender. I say "stock looking" because some groups apparently accept the extra wide stock fenders that look stock but are actually 4 inches or so wider.

The rule of looking stock from the side, like those in the Thumper picture shown, were from the 1972 GCR back when they began to allow flares to equalize the older cars with the newer cars.

Vintage racing seems to be hodge podge of rules and contradictions. Many organizations require you run under the rules at the year of the car, such as 1967 Corvette run under the 1967 GCR.

If the 1967 never ran until 1976, when flares and more were allowed, it is too bad unless you are a high dollar player or have a historically significant car from 1976. Case in point is Phil Currin's 1963 coupe which was the 1972 IMSA GT champion and thus runs the IMSA flares of 1972.

Or if you have your own TV show and decide to film and air the vintage group you run with, they sometimes let you build something a bit more technically advanced than 1967 and still run.

This car wouldn't be red, would it? Where did you get it? South Florida? Pictures?

The car is being delivered to us this weekend. Right now, it's red oxide primer over a lot of bad fiberglass. The car was parked with front end damage ( glass only damage) several years ago. It has flares similar to those pictured with the thumper flares. Ours are "squarer" if that is even a word LOL. It's a rolling chassis, with side pipes (not the street pipes) but like the GS. We have a few trannys to pick from, 4 and 5 speeds. The engine we have is a 383 stroker, solid lifter cam ( not sure of the specs yet) high rise intake with a Holley 4bbl carb. Fortunately we have 2 "donor cars" if we need something. Looks like it will not be a true restoration...we'll see what happens down the road. Thanks again everyone. Yes.........I will post picks when I get some.,, By the way.. the car was sitting in a garage in Daytona for the past several years.

Hi Jim, I live near Melbourne and have a buddy there that has a complete original front clip(with damage) & hood that he has for sale. Not sure from your post if you already have a front, or just looking for the flares. He also has many other C2 items for sale, along with a 69(70?) coupe project car(w/powertrain) for relatively short money. Let me know if you'd like and I can hook you guys up somehow.

The car doesn't look like this one, does it? The tail was changed later to straighten it somewhat and to put the four taillights back in.
