A few years back he had his own truck/trailer and employee transport his cars.
I thought he still did. At least I would think it would be cheaper to own/ operate his own trucks rather then ship through a carrier every time they buy something. About 2 years ago now, they looked at a friends 66 390. Ended up not buying it but they pulled up with their own truck.
i am glad there is that type of fall out. people were flipping cars like people were flipping houses. i have a 66 skylark gs and i know i will never get the $ back and do not care. this hobby is for fun and if you make a buck ok but don't expect to get rich.
Why would they buy at auction and then sell locally? The local population is sober and will not pay ridiculous prices. Something doesn't sound right....
I don't understand. If B-J is a no reserve auction, are these cars that were brought out and then decided to not auction, or cars that were auctioned, sold, and now trying to be flipped for a higher price?
There were several auctions going on that weekend in the Phoenix area. RM and Russo Steele were going on as well. There auctions had reserves on them. I saw a lot of cars not sell and I saw alot of good deals too. Marv

Every local yokel with a rusted out NOM Camaro thinks his car is worth $30K because the ones on BJ sold for twice that much so they put all these ads in the paper, maybe they are hoping some disappointed BJ bidder will buy their pile o' crap. Saw some ads for midyears people were asking over $200K for a small block car.
Went to look at a 70 Chevelle SS 396 yesterday. Claimed documentation of it being a real SS. A/C and many other options.
He failed to mention on the phone that all the a/c parts are missing, the interior and complete dash is shot will need all need gauge cluster and gauges. Rust in both fenders (in socal no less, a rarity). The car was hit hard enough in the front to push the fenders back and had a poor repair. He failed to mention all this plus a number of other issues too numerous to mention when I questioned him 0n the phone. All this for 27k! I told him he has got to be kidding. He told me "did you see Barrett Jackson, this car has the original build sheet, I am seling this cheap"
Lots of B.J.itis going around this time of year.
Some people need to be told that their POS is not worth what they think. I feel bad for the people who chase these MISREPRESENTED cars all over the country only to find out they watched TOO much B.J. and just trying to catch a fish.
This is not just my observation but I'll share it - the buyers in AZ (BJ, RM, R&S) seem to have become much more focused on quality examples (not just any C1 Corvette, not just any Camaro, etc.) and have even heightened their focus on orginality (resto rods seemed to have fallen down).
In other words, the good, unique and original cars are still bringing strong money, but they buyers are no longer snapping up every late 60's offering for big money - they have gotten selective.

I think that now the dust has setteled on car prices. The dealers are sitting on there hands at the auctions unless they can double steal as Terry says. The buyers that paid the money for the 53-62 cars were paying for quality restorations & correct cars. The people that have the money to buy these cars are not stupid. They know what they are buying. Well maby not the old guys with young trophy women 1/2 there age. Who says money dosn't buy everything.
