I'm in the process of replacing my soft top. I ordered a full weatherstrip/vinyl kit from Zip and cannot seem to identify one of the pieces they sent me. Nothing like it came off of the old top, and nothing in the kit component pictures on Zip's website show it. I'm starting to think they sent me an extra part, but want to make sure.
It is a soft tube (rubber or thin-walled plastic) stitched inside of vinyl. The tube is about 1/2" in diam, the assembly is about 45" long. Photos below.
That looks like the front windlace weatherstrip that staples to the front edge on the header bow. It is clamped against the windshield header when the top is latched to keep water from being blown between the top and windshield header. It usually comes with the top, but I have not seen them being supplied with the weatherstrip. It is the first line of defense against water infiltration, and the foam weatherstrip is the second.
It looks like it is made from interior vinyl however, and will probably not be a very good match for your top! The proper windlace strip should be made of the same material as the top, and this one does not appear to be.

John,
Technically it is not the same material as the top. Originals are the long grain material. The picture in my post is an original 66 top. Notice the grain difference. It is also smaller in diameter than the normally supplied replacements.
Thanks very much for your replies, and I'm much obliged for the photo wombvette.
Some questions:
1) Does this piece glue or staple on? Looking at wombvette's picture, it would appear that the bead is actually behind the header tackstrip, so I'm not sure how it would staple on.
2) Any tips on aligning this piece? I'm looking at the original top and can't find any telltale signs of where the bead may have once rested.

If you want to get technical as to how it was done originally it was stapled on. But not just stapled in the way most people put them on today. They were stapled by spreading the legs of the vinyl and then folding down the other flap. This produced a clean look with no staples showing.
