Default Soft top replacement cost

I requested an estimated cost from a local shop to have my top replaced. My current top is in okay shape but has shrunk and is pretty tight. Also it is a pretty heavy grade vinyl.
Not knowing what he best path woould be I asked what a cost would be and if it would be up to me to purchase a top from someone like Knoch or would he have a better source.
What he offered was $347.00 for top, pads and straps then $300 for labor. If I supply the top material labor would be $360 due to the different configuration.
Does this appear to be about average ?
Thanks, John

you're lucky to find someone who will replace a top that they don't provide; something goes wrong and they blame it on the top, not the installer... the price seems reasonable though.

i think i paid about $350 total for top & installation.

I paid $250 for labor locally here in Orlando 2 years ago for a '66 Mustang top replacement and I bought the top and new weatherstripping.

The older fella even fabricated extra padding (beyond factory) to keep the top frame from tearing up the top and installed the new weatherstripping.

I think you've been quoted a reasonable price.

Default Top Price.

I paid four hundred labor only two years ago. I would say you have a fair deal.

I think the price is about right. Don't skimp on the top... either you buy a Knoch or make sure he orders one.

C1 top installs are not fun.

I just paid $660 today for a '66 (11 hours labor), with me supplying top and parts. You have a deal if they can do a good job.

Ralph.

You should think about stripping the old top off yourself. That way, you can take the time to remove any rust and damage to to the frame and paint it properly.

Default soft top replacement

I had a place called Tacks (sp) in E Providence do my 66 about 3 years ago and laybor was 400.00 and I supplied the top. The older fellow that owns the shop has been in business forever and does good work. I dont know who made the top as it came with the basket case 66 when I bought it . I hope this helps Jeff ps he can also fabricate a top for the car from scratch

For reference, I think Al Knoch charges $600 if you get him to do it at a show.

I believe you were quoted a very competitive price . . .
