Not having a problem yet and didn't want to hijack someone's thread but wondering if there is a solid state voltage regulator that will work on my 61 with a generator?
To the best of my knowledge, no.
I have searched for one with no luck. In fact, replacement 12v regulators for a generator system are becoming hard to locate.
One would think that in these days of electronics replacing points in the distributor a simple design could be engineered to replace the points in the voltage regulator?
Guess all the electrical engineers on this forum are rich and don't see the possibilities in the development of a solid state VR for a generator car.
How many do you suppose are left out there, 10K, 20K?
Oh well, most likely some Asian company will offer a unit in the near future and we'll send more dollars overseas!
I found a gentleman in New Hampshire who has built solid state voltage regulators for vintage Chevys with generators. He even puts them inside the original case if you want.
I'm sending my old one off to him tomorrow and I'll let you know my experience.
