I could not find any threads about removing the molding around my windows I have a 63 coup and need them off down the line so I could get ready for paint. My concern are the clips, hopefully I will be able to save them. Are there any pic's showing how........Thanks
I don't have any pics but recently tackled this project. Make sure you purchase the removal tool, I also used a angled awl to remove tension from the clips.
This was the first time I tackled a project of this nature, once you pop off the corner pieces you can see one of the clips & understand how they apply force to the molding.
Forget about saving the old clips - many will be corroded/broken, and the rest will be not far behind. Buy new clips (from Paragon) - most other vendors have Taiwan-made clips, and they're junk.

I wholeheartedly agree with John.....do this once and do it right.....I tried to save my old ones and they didn't have the tension left in them to hold the molding permanently. I had to pull the glass out to replace them all, but now they are staying put!
I haven't done a windshield in thirty years but as I remember you need to remove it to do the correct job. Step one must be right or the following steps degrade in order. Al W.
Do you have to take the glass to replace the clips ????
I didn't see any other way to get them out.....the phillips head screw is in the center of the clip, and below the level of the glass. I could just see a broken glass happening, so I opted to take them out, it also gives you a chance to get new sealant, and a new front gasket in there. Mine were old, hard, and had leaks, so it was an easy decision to take mine out. Definitely have some help handy when you get ready to reinstall though, preferably with some experience in this area.
Good luck.
