Default 1963 gauges

AS some of you know I have been having problems getting my instrument cluster up to par.??? A vendor issue/ some grounding out via feel gauge knockng out gas/ and temp/ emergency blinker/
Found out replacing fuel gauge fixed all the above and ctr ground to cluster from behind. No dancing yet. Even checks out with heat gun.
Last problem was a ammeter gauge with a mind of its own after
I removed cluster. Leading me to suspect that the plastic may be at fault there as well.
I checked to make sure it was charging It checked out better than
I expected? I replaced ammeter gauge and it reads right.
Leaving the car with a working set of gauges for the first time in years.
So far I have changed out senders fuel and temp to no avail The ctr ground being the problem for a long while. The fuel and ammeter gauge along with correct senders I replaced the one on Fuel tank after having old one fixed. I would like to thank the people on here for their help a special thanx to 62 Jeff and many more like him. Now to get on that wiper motor which Im sure is gummed up (lol)

I am restoring a 63 vette and having the same issues with my restored cluster gauges...ammeter dancing around, temp gauge won't work, etc.
What did you find was the problem with yours? Grounding? What did you mean when you referred to plastic? Any help appreciated and thanks in advance for your replies and help. Larry

Hello

My gauges were supposeable "restored" by previous owner...However, my AMP gauge has NEVER worked. needle stay at zero all the time. My Temp gauages works pretty good However, when it doesnt work the fuel gauge works or vice versa

Oil gauage is pretty stable works pretty good..

P.S. How hard is it to restore 1963 gauge panel?? I know the frosted paint is gone from my panel and black paint looks "rattle can" applied in some places..

Pete

I had a lot of problems for years with temp.
I think all along it was the center ground on back of cluster?
I tried several senders to no avail.I started having problems with fuel gauge to make repairs and damaged my sender
I pulled tank and when I put it back gas gauge would jump with every bump I bought a couple senders to no avail one was so bad The slot was not long enuff to let it reach full.
I pulled cluster from car and sent gauges to have them calibrated .
Don't ever do that When I assembled it???
The only change was my ammeter went nuts and I was out more money I had my system checked and found out it was charging.
So I pulled gas gauge and noticed inside that the plastic only available on 63-64 was brittle and no amt of glue was going to fix it.
I put it back together thinking I had fixed it cluster?????
When everything froze in place but oil.
I took gas gauge out and looked at it The plastic was so brittle.
No amt of glue would fix it Just broke out again and you could see where it was grounding out.
When gauge was unplugged things come back up. Corvette Central sold me a re pop gauge fuel I installed it and it.
I had three gauges oil/ gas/ temp/ emergency blinker lite started working. I messed with it some more .
Decided I would buy a re pop ammeter gauge the final fix.
It works about or slightly above ctr of gauge which is perfect.
Heat gun verifies heat range
I still have two different temp senders in my car to remind me there is a 10-15 degree difference.
It comes down to the fact the gauges in 63's-64's are better than 40 yrs old The plastic is brittle later cars dont have the same design
. My ammeter was the only gauge I had I could depend on before it got shook up and calibrated.
I now have new senders in temp two supposed correct ones.
I use the one closest to heat gun. I repaired my old fuel sender and new gauge which fixed the jitters in the reading
A new ammeter gauge fixed the jumping new grounds. NEW bulbs
I have a dash that I'm proud of. She has gauges tach works and speedo and clock. Hope this helps you .
I bugged people on here till I'm sure they got tired of hearing it.
But I knew it was possible I had more than one problem But with the help of fellow members I persevered.
Restoration may work for a few but it did nothing for me but help me find different people to take my money.
Jason of vette instruments was a waste some personal problems.
I understand he does good work.
The re pop thing was the answer for me That is usually not the case but it was for me. Thanx again You guys

fuel/ temp/ emergency blinker lite/ are all on the same circuit.
The frost thing is something I would ask advice
Mine is worn but Hell Its no thing my car is not a NCRS car.
I would look for someone close to a artist to restore the finish as well as needles several guys do that around here but they are not pros.
I never cared enuff about the frosting to fix it
I would as soon mine was chrome. I am still telling people what model that split window is (lol)
