I'm assembling the trans linkage what's your preference on the shift lever location? I assume the top is longer throw, easier movement and lower opposite.

I don't know about anyone else but I changed mine from the original long throw setting to the short one. I also favor the Hurst unit over the original linkage. I could never get the original linkage to give me a positive feeling when I wanted to speed shift the car. Hurst takes care of that. JMO

that is EXACTLY the case; all i can suggest is to try it and see which set of holes you can live with...

You want opinions?

Mine is just the opposite from above. But I don't pull any power shifts anymore. Too much chance of breaking something. Don't like Hurst shifters either. They're fine on a race car. They don't belong on a street car.

The stock shifter shifts nice and smooth in the "long" holes.

I prefer the "short" throw option. A properly maintained and adjusted stock shifter will give nice crisp shifts.

In the short throw holes it did not seem significantly harder to shift than my 1992 6 speed.

I read your question and am wondering, can you change from a long throw to a short throw with the standard shifter and how as I would like to do that to mine. Does it show how in any of the manuals or can someone easily explain.Sounds like a good project to do before it comes out for spring training,Thanks Frank

Look at the 1-2 and 3-4 shift arms on your transmission side cover. If there is another set of holes in the arms besides the ones your existing clevises are in you can make a change. The holes closest to the shift shaft will give the shortest throw on the shift lever.

You may have to re-adjust your linkage if you change it.

The shifter rods are in the "Long" or slow shift position in the pic.

I had my linkage in the "short" configuration for years, changed it to the holes further from the attachment poing. It's easier to shift and smoother in my opinion. Steve
