Default CE Engine Code Info

I just got a 65 Air Coupe with a CE Block, and am trying to find out what the code and Block Casting relate to. The Casting is 3959512 and the Stamp is CE4N23139. I know the CE is counter exchange for warraunty, and have been told that the 4 is the year, with the 23139 being the serial # for that particular CE Engine. I do not know if this is correct, and what the N stands for. Thanks for any help, Ray

The 9512 block was used almost exclusively for warranty/service replacement short blocks; your "CE" number indicates that it was built at Flint V-8 in 1974. The "N" is a supplemental code, used after the plant ran out of their original block (30,000 numbers, between 20,000 and 50,000) of assigned numbers and started over at 20,000.

Thanks,

There's no way to tell without tearing it down. Dealers ordered them (short blocks) by part number off an application list so the innards (crank, rods, pistons) would be the same as in the failed engine, but all the other bolt-on parts (including the cam) were to be transferred from the failed engine; that part number didn't appear anywhere on the engine - just on the paperwork and the crate they came in.

John, I bought my CE (327/350) in 1974. I recall that it came with the cam? Fuzzy memory or also a possibility??
