Default steering wheel help

I have a 64 convertible, now with power steering. I want a smaller steering wheel, but want to keep the same look. I'm trying to avoid the $550 purchase of Eric Freeman, custom 15" wheel.

The best option looks to be a 15" C3 (69-75) version. The issue is that I need a spacer, due to the design. They fit perfectly on a 67, not a 64.

Help! Where can I find a a spacer?

Default cheaper option?

I'm looking for a cheaper option. The C3 wheel is $200, plus a new hub is $115. Now I'm half way to a C2 teakwood.... If I can find a spacer for $ 10 - 20 bucks, I think I'll go that way.

who said anything about buying a new hub. I am sure you can find a used one much cheaper. its the same hub used on all GM cars with wood wheels.

Default timing

Timing is everything. I was responding to the other suggestion. I take it you bought your steering wheel from Budnik.

They look nice.

I took my hub to a machine shop and they removed the material needed so that the steering would fit, cost was 20 bucks.

I purchased a 70 vett wheel and had it wrapped in leather.

Made my own adapter out of 1/8" aluminim and wrapped a C3 wheel in leather also. Paid $80 for the wheel, $5 for the aluminum, and I think around $25 to $30 for pad and leather cover. Used the pad to thicken the wheel for the wheekskin's leather cover.

I don't think that is true. Pretty sure the hub outer diameter or the hub thickness is different on other gm models.

No kidding? I was looking for a hub for my 65 to mount a 69 Camaro wheel and aftermarket hub part numbers are different between models. To me that meant the hubs were different. I never looked for gm numbers. Also, I thought when the ignition swt was moved to the column on gm cars the hub diameter increased. Hmmmmmm. Now you got me wondering. Maybe I can find a hub.

The hub outside diameter is exactly the same between midyears and '69 GM locking columns; don't know if the internal configuration is the same or not (just measured my '67 Corvette and '69 Camaro with the rosewood wheel).

Default project almost complete

Got my C3 steering wheel installed today. The trick ws getting the adapter plate made to match my hub. Local tool & die shop...no problem.

By the way, if you need the part made call John @ Accurite Tool & Die. He's got it fully designed and ready to make more parts.

Now for the next part....who has done a leather wrap on a C3 wheel? Did you do it yourself or have a leather shop do it?

Chris

Google Wheelskins. You will need a pad under the wheelskins to thicken it a little. If you call Wheelskins, they will tell you what you need and how to do it.
