For a 962 block, the casting date is located on the lower right side (pass side) near the oil dip stick tube. Probably upside down, with alpha-numeric date format MDDY. The month (M) is a letter code with January being A and December being L. Day of the month (DD) is from 1 through 31. Year (Y) is a single digit: example 6 for 1966.
A block cast February 3, 1966 would be B36. A block cast April 24, 1966 would be D246.
