New to the forum........ 1966.....I had my radio out being fixed, and I noticed a wire hanging down. The body is silver with a green lens. Somebody told me it was the" heater indicator light". Can anybody tell me if this is correct, and where does it get attached to.
Thanks,
Tom
If your car does not have factory A/C, then that bulb is the backlighting for the Heater and Radio **** lettering, and it normally clips to the dash housing that holds the clock, at the 6 o'clock position.
If your car has factory A/C, then it could also be one of the 2 additional lights of the same style, that provide the backlighting for the A/C and Temp **** lettering. Those additional lights clip on the to the dash around the perimeter of the clock area at about 9 and 3 o'clock position
Thanks for the reply.....I do not have AC. If I remember correctly, the clock sits in it's own little housing. So... this would clip to the bottom of that housing?

Yes, the clock assembly fits into a housing that has part of the dash assembly. The bulb clips to the bottom of that housing.
JohnZ posted a picture a while back, but I'm having trouble finding it right now, and I'm heading off to the office for the day so I'll look again tonight if it hasn't been added to this thread by then.
Here's the photo of the "torpedo lamp" that clips into the clock housing at the 6 o'clock position; note that it won't work unless the clock is installed and connected - the lamp gets its ground from the upturned end of its retaining clip contacting the outside of the clock case.

John, if only I had thought to take pics like that when disassembling things on the Vette, I'd save my self a lot of time the second time around! Thanks for the pic. I've saved it for future reference. - Pat
