I pulled the trigger on my new ZZ383 today... Can't wait for it to arrive so I can get it ready to put in the car.. I want to get it in the car around the June time frame.. I'm going to take the plunge and put a TCI street fighter 200R4 4 speed aut in at the same time...
I posted my DZ motor on the Camerao forum and have it sold to a guy in Co that is restoring a 69.
Here's the question... I want to paint the engine chevy orange including the heads... I have seen aluminum heads not painted that are a couple years old and they don't have the flash any more... Can I do this with POR15 or some other paint... I know I will need to clean, degrease, and prep the engine well before I paint. I have never painted aluminum heads so I do not know what to expect...
I would powdercoat the aluminum heads if you want them painted....
Aluminum Japanese Motorcycle wheels are powdercoated and hold
their color w/o chipping .... it can be difficult to get paint to adhere
to aluminum. With the amount of time involved in removing and repainting
heads -I'd bulletproof the operation the first time.

Thanks for any input,
Capt Roy
Exciting times lay ahead Capt Roy! Congratulations! Like you, I've seen some painting disasters as well. I did a little sleuthing on the Web and learned that it's a bit more complicated than clean, primer & then paint. I thought that you might find this one website interesting, so I'll attach a link. The article doesn't specifically talk about engine blocks & heads, but it gives a really good insight into how to properly paint aluminum.
