Maybe someone who is very, very good with a wire feed welder can spot it back on. 
You'll have to get the flapper door shaft and lever in the proper orientation before tacking it.
I've had my heater/AC box out and it ain't no picnic.

absolutely...had the exact same problem with my 66 a/c roadster last year. If I remember correctly a buddy of mine who was an aircraft tool and die maker drilled a hole in the are same size as the shaft lined every thing up and lined the area with damp wipers and put a spot of MIG weld on top. Good to go...much better than the "mickey mouse" original spot weld.

Thanks for the help.
I got it done. Did as you suggested. I spot welded it with a mig welder. I practiced severl times on peice of metal before I biult up the courgae to do it. Turned out great.
