Has anyone looked and the new LSX block? I was thinking of having a naturally aspirated carbureted LSX put in my C2. Was anyone put a LS block in a C2? If so want kinds of headaches will I run into?
Read the "Conversions and Hybrids" section on ls1tech.com
There is also good info in the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum under "restomods" I think.
Requires wiring, new motor mounts, new tranny or adapter, possible driveshaft, fuel pump/tank modifications, new guages or conversion to electrical guages. I think that's the major stuff. LSx's are in just about everything you can think of nowadays.
None of it all that bad depending on your confidence and how much money you're willing to throw at it.
No fuel system mods required for carburetted applications. Except some sort of low pressure electric pump is required. Wiring changes minimal also for same reason.
No real mods on fuel system aside from an electric pump that meets your needs.
Driveability will suffer if that is one of the reasons you are looking at an LSx. You'll want to price the cost of going carb as you'll need intake, carb, and ignition. But it does look good and make ya look twice at a carb'ed LSX.
The LSX is a great block, but a little overkill unless you are planning on making 1000 horsepower. With stock LS engines making close to 500 hp, there are better choices for a street driven car. I have a LS2 with only a little over 400 hp in my 65, and it is severly traction challenged, even with 245 tires. I can't imagine 500-600 hp in one of these cars, much less 800-1000! The stock aluminum block is plenty strong for 600-700 horespower. The Cast-Iron LSX block is more for the racer and guys running turbos and making north of 1000 hp.

P.S. , I agree with the comments on carb vs EFI. Keep the EFI, and you will be rewarded with a car the starts on the first carnk ever time, makes awsome power, and gets good economy!

I can! You're right though John. I did mine up because I wanted a different look as well as a little more out of it, and when needed/wanted, it's a heck of a ride! I haven't dyno'd it yet but I would say well over 500 with the heads, cam, and blower.
I would go for the LSx block if I planned more Strip then Street time and the LS1/2/3/6/7 are a lot of fun right out of the box.
And to 65Sting, as far as headaches are concerned, there are enough members out there who have gone through the pain already and can help save you a lot of aggravation by reading through the FAQ's sticky above and some prior posts on the subject. Also, in the C3 Tech forum, there is a sticky at the top and much of it applies to a C2.

ME TOO!!!
Although after riding in yours John I can't imagine what mine will be like with 200 more HP!
Both Jeff's and Joe's cars are perfect examples of why a LSX block is not needed. Here are two cars that have over 600 hp, and they are running stock aluminum blocks! Both these cars are about as much horsepower as you can imagine on a street driven car. Jeff, I can't wait for my first ride in your car! I promise that my next project will have more than a measly 400 hp. I may yet add a Magnacharger to the 65, but I am goinfg to drive it for a few months before I decide.
1coolC2: Nice clean looking LS engine! Where are the coil packs located?
Yeah really clean!! No injector wires or radiator hoses ...who needs 'em I made mounting brackets and relocated them to the rear of the cylinder heads. Really cleans up the motor and allowed me to run all of the spark plug wires along the lower side of the cylinder head behind the headers. I also made covers that go over coil packs to conceal them back there. The LS motor looks really pretty good when you get all the crap out of the way
Thanks Jeff and ditto. There was a time when it was a lot cleaner under the hood but then you start adding hoses, vacuum lines, wiring, etc. and it starts to fill up pretty quick. Finding a place to neatly tuck everything sometimes takes a planning as well as some trial and error - and luck!
I'll be at Carlisle with mine. Hope to see you and yours there if you make it again. I missed out last year but will definately be there this year.

Joe,
I'll definitely be there. Just got my letter from Lance Miller informing me that my car will be in the "Chips choice display" I thought I heard a rumor yours may be as well?? Look forward to meeting up with you, it's always a good time seeing everyone up there. See ya soon!

Jeff
congrats on the Chips Choice display for your car this year! We just had brunch with Lance and Michelle this morning and he was telling me about the theme for the Chips Choice and it will be great to finally get to see your car after seeing all the posts about it. I understand Rich L's car will be in the display also, along with his former car, the '67.
Would love to see Joe's car in there too.
These "restromod" cars are awesome and one day i'd love to have one myself but in the meantime at least we can drool over them when we get to see them on display at shows like Carlisle.
Now, if only we could convince John McGraw to bring one or both of his cars up to the show sometime........
congrats on the Chips Choice display for your car this year!
Would love to see Joe's car in there too.
Actually, you will!!!
Thanks! Also, keep an eye out for our favorite Corvette Mag in May or June!
Yes Jeff, I'll be there around noon on Thursday setting up. I'm really looking forward to it. I have Rich to thank for putting the word in for that one. I don't know how many in each generation will be represented but it's going to be a blast.

congrats to you also Joe!
wow, i can't wait to see this years display, there is going to be some awesome cars in that building!
BTW, are you referring to CE magazine? Both the May and June issues are already out. The next one is the July issue which should be out in about 3 weeks.
congrats to you also Joe!

Thanks Barry. And you are right, it's going to be some display. If anyone hasn't seen Rick L.'s car yet, check out his website. I just hope I'm not parked anywhere near it. But they are all sweet machines. I was sorry I missed Jeff's last year at Carlisle, wanted to check it out. But I'll get my chance this year.
Obviously the C1's and 2's will be getting most of the attention, but us C3 fans will enjoy it too (as anyone who knows me will attest - I like em all!).
As far as the mags go, some come out 3-4 months ahead of their actual "month" of publication (ex: The June issue of CE came out several weeks ago with Mark Stalh's big-bad-azz C5 (which coincindently was painted by the same guy as mine).
Stop and say hi at Carlilsle. It will be a pleasure to meet everyone. I'll be floating around but if you see a "FrankenSport" T-Shirt, it will be me.
I like them all too......... including the C3's since besides my '65 I also have a '78. It's also dark Blue like yours.
I haven't seen Rich's car in person yet although I sure have seen it a lot on his website and in the magazine articles. his cars are always incredible. From seeing his '62 and '67 he built who can expect anything less than sheer artistic perfection from one of his builds?
I think this is going to be a very enjoyable Carlisle show this year with the cars to be seen.
