I have a 67 and the headlight motors are a bit lazy meaning they are slow and sometimes the left light will only open half way.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to deal with repairing this?
I have taken them apart and put new grease on the gears, but nothing further than that.
Also if the answer is a rebuild, can anyone provide me with places to get them rebuilt?
make sure that the wiring harness is in good shape, needs full voltage.
I had a similar problem with my left headlight last summer. Had the left motor rebuilt, there was a gear damaged in spots. No problems since then.
Don't know where you live?? Had mine rebuilt at Corvettes & Performance in Buffalo (Larry Lewis)
When you had the headlight motors out did you check the pivot points of the buckets? Did the buckets rotate freely with the motors removed? They should flop open and closed with little effort. If they do not then you may have to replace the pivot shafts and ***** as they routinely become seized together.
If you do decide they need rebuilding/restoring I highly recommend:
"Restoration Service"(Steve Hackel) in Midlothian, IL.
He does EXCELLENT work, at a fair price, & his turn around time is incredible. HTH, Bob L.
