How can I adjust my hood back to get clearance from
the nose. I don't want to drill out the hinges, but I will
if I have to. Here are two pics to show you the problem.
Is there a way to shim it?
Did it fit before you took it off? What did you change? Besides the motor..
There should be quite a bit of slope in the two bolts that hold the hinge to the fenders. Then the three bolts that hold the hinge to the hood have a bit of slope too. If you can't loosen all five per side and get the adjustment that you need you may have to slot some of them. Dave
Dave, It fit perfectly before. I changed hinges and did a little
fiberglass repair at the hood support area but nothing to the
hinge area. I have loosened all 5 bolts and pulled the hood back
as far as it will go and you see the result in the pics. I guess
i am going to have to ream out the holes to get the hood
to slide back.
You state that you bought new hinges. Could they be the problem?
Several years ago, a friend with a 65 called me with a similar problem.
He had bought new hinges, and couldn't get his hood to fit. We messed with it for hours, THEN..................
we looked at his old hinges.
They had been modified.....cut and rewelded...to compensate for an ill fitting one piece front end.
Put the old hinges on, and the hood fit again.
I'd check the old hinges.

My 66 had the same problem.
I bought new hinges and the hood was taller than surrounding body.
I modified the new hinges to fit matching the old worn out hinges. Will have to redo the front surround some day.

Same here..... My old hinges had been elonggated to fit the hood. The body is a "No Hit"...but the BB hood was added as an after thought..hence the "roto cut on the holes"..
I returned the new Aftermarket Hinges ..cleaned up the old ones..and put them back on ...Problem solved.

Chuck just went and looked at the old hinges and you
are exactly right. It looks as if they cut down the side
of the hinge that mounts to the fender skirt and rewelded
them. I put them back on and it fit better but not as good
as it used to. I still need some adjustment.

Thanks Shemp
That unfortunately is a common "mod" for fitting a hood. Might be the hood itself, OR more likely, a front end repair not proper aligned, i.e. a surround panel or the front fenders.
