Default L79

I got a Corvette a day calander for christmas. Nice but no descriptions on anything. This weeks has been a nice 1965 L79 Corvette. Can anyone fill em in on what the L79 option was. Just curious.

Nice pictures but the calander itself leaves a little to be desired. I'm used to the one from CAR and Driver that has a short blurb on each of the cars. Been staring at the L79 all week trying to figure out from thd pictures what it meant.

Just in case you wanted more info on the L79. It included an aluminum intake manifold, script vavle covers, holley carb, and chrome air cleaner (without the snorkels). The 360hp motor looks the same except the lifters are different to produce 10 more HP, I guess they are hydraulic lifters?

The 365 horse has solid lifters and the 350 horse has hydraulic lifters. I have an L79 350 horse in my 65 and love it. It's torquey and has a nice horsepower band between 3,000-6,000 RPM's. No tinkering with solid lifters either.

What cam came in the L79? 350 horsepower seems pretty good for a 327. Anybody know what the base motor Vette had in the way of HP for comparison.

in '65 the motor options were:

Base motor - 327/250hp
L75 option - 327/300hp
L79 option - 327/350hp
L76 option - 327/365hp
L84 option - 327/375hp (fuel injected)
L78 option - 396/425hp (first big block, came out 2nd half of year)

See here:
http://100megsfree4.com/corvette/
click on a year and it will give you info on that year including all the motor options and basic specs of HP, Torque, type of carb, compression, type of lifter/cam (Hyd. or solid). etc

GM 3863151: 447/447 Lift, 222/222 Duration Hyd. Really nice everyday cam. Good rumble at idle.

Interesting I think that is the same as the L82 cam in the later years 350.

Nope. The L-82 cam had more lift and duration, especially on the exhaust side.
