Can you recommend a engine hoist? Probably won't use it more than twice so I'm in the market for a used one. I'd think a load leveler will be needed to handle sbc w/tranny attached.
In the same boat as you so I rented one. One day for engine out, one for engine in. $50 for the two days. I did not want to have an engine hoist taking up space since I do not plan on doing engine swaps on a regular basis. I did buy a load leveler from Pep Boys. Worked very well.
You can buy them for about twice the daily rental cost. So, if you screw up, and need the hoist for more than 1 day, you're better off buying. Look at Pep Boys, Harbor Freight, and Northern Tool. Go to car show/swap meets. Those cheap Made in China ones work pretty good. Maybe you can sell it on Craigs List after you finish with it. The leveler jobby is a must have.
i bought one form the local harbor freight , the legs fold up when not in use , it was a little over 100.00 with the discount coupon i had
i bought one too, just didn't make sense to rent. i fold up the legs and store it in the shed when not in use. once you have one you will find other uses for it. i have a big roll around workbench with removable top and am doing a body-off C2 resto, i took the top off my workbench and lifted the bare frame up and set it on the workbench to do the plumbing and front/rear suspension. IT WAS GREAT doing all that stuff at workbench hight.
