Vette bond is great stuff but if you plan on using it be prepared to fork over some bucks. I just bought a quart for $47.00 last week, last year a quart was around $32.00. Paul.
I'm with Ragtopman. Used 8115 to glue a surround, it was a piece of cake! Upside: Loooong working window (90 Minutes) which takes alot of stress out of the job. Downside: It's a bit pricey & at the time I used it the cartridges required a special 3M gun, VERY expensive! Fortunately I was able to borrow one. I've heard recently that the gun requirement has changed, hope that's true.
A couple of tips: whichever adhesive you buy, if it comes in tubes, overbuy, you can always return the unused tubes & before you pop open the tubes or start mixing a batch, measure, measure, measure whatever you're bonding. A few extra minutes before bonding may save you alot of time after the adhesive kicks.
Norton also makes/sells a product I'm told that's similar to 8115 but cheaper. I've never used it so I can't say good or bad.
Good Luck!, Bob L.
i am bonding front fender bonding strips to hood souround is ecklers any good? it says the same as used at factory
Yes, it's excellent. Has lots of body and looks like the old factory GM stuff and has a very slight amount of give to it after curing. Some of the aftermarket stuff I experimented with was too thin and creamy, too light of color and just didn't look original. The Ecklers stuff also dries dark gray which looks original. However, Ecklers is an epoxy material and will cook off fairly rapidly, depending upon how much hardner you put in it. So if working with something like a hood surround you might want to try one of the newer adhesives with longer working time. Someone once suggested keeping it in a refrigerator until just before using to slow down the set time.
Ecklers bonding adhesive is an excellant product. It does set up rather quickly so use during the coolest part of the day and don't add too much hardener. Bob

Are you referring to the Restoration Formula Panel Bonding Adhesive p/n 34266? What's the cure time?

We all tend to adjust our Hardener to the conditions presented by the weather. Hardener ratios are critical to the life of the Bond and the amount of shrinkage during the overall bonded period. Hopefully, the manufacturer recommends appropriate ratios. Stay within these guidelines whenever possible. Never ever use any Hardener that is more than a year old. Refrigerating Hardeners will extend the useful life of Hardener but fresh is better for quality results in the long run. Al W.
We have been using marine tex for over 30 years and have had excellent results in appearance, workability and zero shrinkage. It is a very expensive product and only available generally in marine supply stores and online. Comes in white or grey. Used it on all aftermarket press molded, hand laid, sermersheim and image noses and products. I would never consider using anything else. Probably around $80 a quart retail.
