yup, all those custom touches that we had always thought hurt the car's value (Cali tail lights, fender flares, glassed over headlights) are now going to be known as "rare"

here's a snippet of the ebay ad text - how many glaring errors can you spot?
From a color standpoint, 1963 was the only year that Daytona Blue was offered on the Corvette.

From an option standpoint, this car came from the factory with option T86 Backup Lamps of which only 318 were ordered with that option. Prior to delivery, the original owner had the dealer install the "California Custom Option". This involved the dealer adding 2 additional red lamps on the rear and it was only available to factory Backup Lamps cars and can only have been installed in California. The California Custom Option could only have been dealer installed prior to initial delivery. It could not have been retrofitted. The information above was provided by an NCRS appraiser who felt that this 6 tail light configuration was quite the "Holy Grail" of Corvette collecting and had never seen one in person.

In addition to the rare options discussed above, it is believed that this car was originally a convertible top delete car. When the current owner purchased it, there was no evidence that a convertible top had ever been on the car. He spent 6 months, working with countless suppliers and spent $2800 to source the convertible top and all of the hardware necessary to mount the top. Everything associated with the convertible top including swivels, brackets, bows, canvas, clamps, etc., have been completely replaced with N.O.S. Very unusual indeed.
I count at least six magnificient false statements

Ahhhhhhh Yeah

My brother had that "rare" extra rear tail lights option on his 1964 Corvette...Before we repainted his car we took that "option" off the car..

The only hyperbole that was not mentioned in this add was the fact that the Jan and Dean song said "six tail lights" vs four tail lights on "most" Corvettes, thus this could have been "the" car they sang about.

I'm glad the "tank sticker" was not mentioned as the way they know all of these rare options to be correct for this car.

NCRS is looking to pull an "appraiser's" certification ASAP.

Or a total impostor is telling sellers what they want to hear for a fat fee!

I could do it too, except I'd say it was the only car sold and delivered by the legendary Bob Wingate during the one week he defected from Clippinger Chevrolet to Giant in Visalia. Wingate personally installed the two extra lights and signed the glovebox door.

Snap this gem up before Michaelis gets it and triples his money at B-J!

So this must be the car you guys are reffering to, I'm sure there's not a bunch of these running around since it's "rare"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1963-...=p4506.c0.m245

Just to clarify, there wasn't a T86 back-up lamps option? I wanted to be sure because I always assumed this was a custom touch done by the owners.

How can this guy legally get away with the claims he putting forth on this car?

In 1963 and 64 option T86 was for backup lamps. Later years bound Backup lamps as part of a comfort/convenience option package that included a day/night mirror (APO Z01).

6 tail lights were most definitely a custom touch, with one instance of a California chevy dealer seemingly offering that custom mod for you when you purchased your new 67 vette.

Yes, that would be appropriate. I've send an email to HQ requesting that a cautionary note be sent immediately to all NCRS appraisers. Let's see what happens.

This auction seems like it is part of a divorce settlement and she got the car. In one photo, it sits in front of a house and in another, it looks like it is in a storage lot with a security fence.

They didn't even mention the rare under car exhaust option instead of having the tail pipes going through the valance panel. Probably installed by the dealer with the Cal light option.

Hi John, the issue is one of dead threads.

This thread, is over a year old. The original poster pointed to the same car (presumably) that was up for auction in May 2008. The thread was resurrected by 1982CorvetteDude, referencing the same car in the current auction. This was probably in response to the other thread about the PT Barnum car, which is the car that Mike (61Retro) is linking to.

Actually it was in reference to the humerous eBay claims in the C3 section that vettebuyer linked to. I asked a question in that thread about the six taillight option but everyone skipped over me.

I did a search for that option and this thread popped up, rather than start a new thread (because some think that is a cardinal sin) I posted in this one because I figured it was the same car.
