Can't tell which one has the plastic handle...Is the one on the right the one that works?

Bottomline...I'm trying to remove the entire frontend clip. I've got to get under the windshield reveal moulding to separate the clip from the windshield frame. I probably need to remove the w/s too to properly align the new clip. At the moment, can't get the dumb moulding off. Maybe I don't need to be too delicate. Suggestions????

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Rene,

I picked mine up at a local parts store. If you can, print the photo and take it in with you. Tell them you want the one on the right.

The one on the left has a plastic handle. I have one of those. I stopped using it as soon as I cracked the roof glass in my Vista Cruiser trying to remove the window trim with the thing.

Cut the rubber, ease the windshield out, then you can see the clips and release em.

The left one is the bad one. I couldn't get it to work at all. The other one is all steel. I got it through a local parts store. As I told Rene-Paul all you have to do a print the photo and take it to your local parts store, they should be able to look it up. If that doesn't work, go to the local paint store. They can get it for sure.

Just finished a '63 SWC. Bought new clips from cc and after attempting to reinstall the trim we discovered that they are not the same as the originals. The replacements are just a bit shorter and will not allow the trim to snap back on correctly around the front windshield. Fortunately the originals were in good condition and we replaced the cc ones with originals and all went well.

According to the Service Manual......" Pry molding out of weatherstrip". No tool is mentioned.

Guaranteed bent moulding. I twisted mine the first time I took them out and I had a tool. Wouldn't suggest just pulling them out of the clips.

Attn Buns; I believe that a 63 ONLY front moulding can be removed like the shop manual reads. The 63 moulding has a full flange on its inner perimeter. It is a stiff piece and will handle the prying, It is also a one year only piece that Piper has for 700 restored. So much for prying/praying. Mine came out ok after cutting the seal and removing the w/s. The side reveal mouldings have the same p/n in the 63/64 aim. It is just that clip in the side moulding that is a killer to find for the 63.
An alternative may be to use a 64 clip in the moulding and its mate on the w/s flange. [Screw on type].

If it is not shown in the 63 manual or the 64-5 updates, let me know and I'll post the 66 pics.
Please post it. Thanks -- Bill

Clips are similar, but the rear glass as you may know has no gasket. It beds in a bead of caulking similarly to the front windshields on today's cars. You'll have to cut the glass out with a wire attached to two handles, one held inside and one outside the glass.

Magic,

The front windshield trim acts as its own lock mechanism. There are no clips in the windshield trim. The retaining clips appear to be approximately the same.

This morning, I managed to finally get the lower reveal moulding off the w/s. The clip (color coded green) on your drawing was not present. Looks like bubba must've found another way of attaching it.

view a is close to the corner. it may be that only the corner has the clip 9b? The 9a clips [red] are indicated across the bottom. 2a is definitely the lower molding. The corner/vertical molding is called A on figure 12.

Thanks Ron. I bought a wire tool from Eastwood, and I have the service manual. My biggest challenge is how to get the moulding off without damaging them!
