engine stamp big block vs small block.Am I right that they are opposite.Being that the assembly date on a biglock is stamped on the bottom with the serial number stamped on the top and the exact opposite for a small block.I am starting to forget more and more every day as I get older.Maybe they were right about all of those beers killing brain cellsbut I see this and I wonder?

That sure looks like a small block to me, and every one I've ever seen had the VIN derivitive on the "bottom" and the assembly date and suffix on the top.
The one in the pic has the VIN derivitive on the top.
There is one possible red flag regarding this car's engine, which is that they "replaced the 6,000 rpm tach with a 5,500 rpm tach." When I was searching for my own 67 five years ago, I found several 300 HP cars (which have 5500 rpm tachs) being passed off as 350 HP cars (6000 rpm tach). The owners had swapped in the intake manifold and chrome bits in the engine compartment to make the cars look like legit 350 HP cars, but did not bother to change the tach, which takes several hours to do. All the owners and dealers I confronted admitted that they had faked the "350 HP" items. I must say that if this is the car's only flaw, it would not stop me from buying it, since the 300 and 350 HP engines do not differ significantly in performance. But, one should not be paying a few thousand bucks extra for a "350 HP" is one is not actually getting it.

unfortunately it looks as though they did not change the tach but it looks as though some one restamped it very poorly
I sent the seller a message letting him know about the stamp pad being incorrect. He has since revised his description now omitting the matching numbers portion.here was his response
"Anyone that knows anything about a corvette should know that. I didn't need anyone to tell me. The car is what is and you get what you see. I am not trying to missrep. the car or I would not showed the pic.I also said there is no paper work to back up anything about the car. It can be what ever you want it to be. Maybe I should just grind all the # off the motor then we wont have this problem in the future."
His reply simply confirms that he's a con artist. Ya gotta love the line "It can be whatever you want it to be."

this seller sounds like a real piece of work.I just do not get why a seller with what appears to be a nice car resorts to deception to sell the car.It makes me think what else in the car is the seller being less than truthfull about!!!

back in my street racing days (in my misspent youth...), i can tell you for sure that there IS a significant different between the 300 & 350; a 300 could beat a 350 through 1st & 2nd gears, but the 350 would come flying by in third (maybe about 80mph... )

in a resale perspective it is near 10k with the combo of a/c and 350hp being relatively rare and very desireable. What do you think the chances are that this seller has told the bidders of the restamp.

Chances are slim to none at best, because as the seller states, "Anyone that knows anything about a corvette should know that".

Naughty Boy, Bill .... Of course, I was speaking to RESPONSIBLE Corvette owners, not to depraved, antisocial street outlaws

I have had both 300 HP cars and 350 HP cars. I have to agree ...the 350 HP is considerably more powerful. Not to offend the 300 HP owners but IMHO the 300 HP is (was?) rather lame. Similar opinion based on the two engines running in Chevelles. The 350 HP was just more exciting. A 300 "could" beat a 350 but if the 350 was tuned properly I doubt that the 300 would be in front until 80 MPH. Factory redlines not withstanding the 300 cam is just plain out of breath way to soon compared to the 350 HP cam.
