I know this isn't exactly a new subject but after checking the archieves on Tires, it has been awhile since the subject has come up, I think. Anyway my '58 has GoodYear Arriva P215 75R15 tires and they have a tendency to squeal a little under pressure. I'm wondering what most people are using today and for what conditions?
Thanks in advance,
Jim
Hi Jim. Your PM didn't say what psi the tires are at. I sent you a PM back, but not sure if it went, so, I'm running 205x75x15R UniRoyal Tiger Paws on my 67. BIG difference in ride & handling. Run 35#'s all around. Bought them cuz they were having a sale, 60 each, then a coupon for 40 off a set of 4. Could not pass that one up. Bill.
Bill,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my request. It seem like you and I are the only ones with any interest in what makes cars go. There is a post about pictures and within hours there are 20 replies, but ask a question about something of substance and there is one lost soul. I'm an old Hot Rodder so we're more interested in what makes cars go and hold the road than how pretty they look.
To answer your question, there is 35 lbs in the tires but what I was wondering was what type and brand of tires are being used on some of the older year cars, such as a '58.
Thanks again,
Jim
The standard radial replacement size for the original 6.70-15's is the 205/75-15; there isn't much of a selection of "performance" tires in the 15" size any more, although Pirelli has 215/70-15 P4000's with a "Z" speed rating. Most 205/75 15" radials are "S" or "H" speed rating, and lots of those are available from Goodyear, Uniroyal, Michelin, Firestone, etc. The archives are chock-full of "tires" threads.
H Jim. In your PM you mentioned some wander on some roads. Have your toe-in checked. It's different for radials than bias ply. Re: the C1's and tire size, can't help there. I can tell you , I am happy with the 205's on my car. Take Care, Bill.
