- Drain Coolant
- Drain engine oil
- Remove hood
- Air cleaner
- Carb
- Alternator
- Fan
- FUEL PUMP (most will not clear with it on)
- Unhook exhaust. (I pull manifolds, but not needed).
- Distributor (a must), shields and wire guides (they could get bent)
- Oil Pressure Line
- Radiator and Shroud
- Starter wiring / Coil wires
- All hoses
- U-haul type packing blankets around nose and fenders.

If Trans is coming with it!!!

Shifter (Rods can stay, but they have to be tucked out of the way).

Unhook drive shaft or just let it slip off the spline (Oil will run out the end if yoke is not with the Trans.

Speedometer Cable

Pull the exhaust bracket at Trans mount

Loosen Trans mount bolts.

Some Don'ts
Support the engine with a jack under the oil pan (It will dent)
EVER get under or around the engine, assume it can fall.
Use cheep bolts and chains.
Get in a hurry.
Force anything.

Some Do's
Have a helper, two guys on the engine, one on the hoist jack.
Get an engine tilter, more so if the Trans is coming out also.
Have an engine stand or cradle ready to accept the engine.
Pick the engine near the lift boom, you may need to go high and my run out of stroke, no fun setting it back in to re adjust the chain.

I used a plate that bolted to the intake on the carb mounting surface. Those 4 little carb studs held just fine. (Made me nervous though).

Google Kevin McKay - Valley Syream, NY

His website has an excellent step by step list.

Buy the book "How to Rebuild Your Small Block Chevy". It doesn't address Corvette specifically but it does cover everything from soup to nuts on how to do this. It has a reinstallation section that will get you up and running. The last time I looked it was available at Barnes and Noble and other large book stores. It has photos to back up most of the stuff, too.

I had never done an engine R & R until I used this book to do my 66 SB and then I later used it on my neighbor's 73 BB.

Of course, you will want a load leveler to allow you to tilt the engine as needed for the installation.

I can only find step by step for Frame off, but nothing step by step for engine removal....
Hate to ask but can you point us to engine removal....
Thanks

Use Mark's list above - there's no engine removal checklist at Kevin MacKay's site - only body lift.
Thanks JohnZ

Default Bubba`s Check list. Works every time.

Hook chain to engine, remove motor mount bolts. Pick up on engine. Cut or remove anything that is holding on. Engine removed.
