water pump
Thanks for the thought. Nope, I have a short water pump. I do have an aftermarket billet water pump pulley but that only adds 3/8" thickness to the face of the pully. The distance to the shroud is determined by the mounting surface of the water pump shaft, is it not? By going back to a standard pulley, I only pick up 3/8" and I need a good 1 1/2 to 2 inches to be 1/2 in and 1/2 out.
I am running just shy of 26 degrees advance. Although, the fan clutch was new a couple of years ago, I am going to check it out but I lack confidence that is the problem. I have ordered an Air Dam from Dr. Rebuild to seal the space between the rad mount and the hood. Problem is I am running a 383 Stroker w/ a Comp Cam EX262 cam. When you throw A/C in the mix, it is really borderline. I have already installed one of Tom DeWitt's aluminum radiators so I don't believe that is the problem.

Also, you should really consider changing out the dual point distributor to a single points distributor or a tach drive HEI with vacuum advance.
The vacuum advance will give you many benefits including lower operating temps, better throttle response, and better idle quality.
You can still run the MSD box with a single points distributor and by going with the single points unit with vacuum advance and the MSD box you should have an very good operating ignition system.
I have moved my fan in about an inch. It is almonst half in & half out. I also drilled some 3/8" "Steam Holes" in the perimeter of my T-stat (checked the stat and it opens & closes as it should - 180* )and bought an "air dam" from Dr. Rebuild.
This weekend I plan to install the air dam. I decided to take your advice and after I played around with the advance a bit I decided to get an MSD-8572 vacuum/mechanical advance tach drive distributor and use my MSD-6A box with it. This weekend I am hoping to change the distributor and overheating situation! Thanks again to this forum for all the good advice.
