I have found a correct 3737739 Nov. 58 block for my 59 vette I'm restoring. My 59 was built around Dec. 27 1958.
It is the basic 283 230 hp. I know the pad should begin with
CQ and the (Dec.) serial code shows to be 102641 so I was wanting to know if you would stamp it CQ 102641 to be correct and complete.
Should there be anything else stamped after the numbers or is that the complete stamp I would need.
Can a guru let me know so I can have this block stamped correctly?
Thanks
I am not sure about the 3737739 block being correct for your car. I had a 59 with a vin of 102588 and had a 3756519 block in mine. But maybe they were mixed in the early 59's.
No vin number was stamped on the block. They started that in mid 1960.
Block has to be a Flint block so the stamp would read something like this: F1214CQ
where F = Flint 12=Month 14=Day of Month CQ=230hp,Manual Trans.
Dec 14 would be the date that engine was assembled.
On the rear passenger side of the Block will be a Date Code that is Cast in the Block. Flint Blocks have single digit for the year. For the year 1959, only the 9 will be there. For Tonawonda Block, 59 would appear there.
Thanks,
jim
Thanks,
Yes this is an early 59 and the block should be the 739.
I guess it could just be F 12(whatever day you want) CQ.
Sound right????? (F 1209 CQ) or should any other info be there??
Thanks
And here's a November and a December stamp picture. However, keep in mind that the NCRS Judging Manual states: "The engine block casting date must precede the engine identification stamping date; generally, by no more than two weeks." So you need to pick your assembly date stamp accordingly.
If you are going to restamp your block, you would do well to research as to who has the best stamps. They are not hardware store characters by any means.
