Default Midwest Flooding

Just curious.

Does anyone know of any CF members or their cars that have suffered from the crisis in the Midwest flooding???

Only very minor flooding in our area. (What part of 'flood plain' don't they understand?)

Missouri river has been around 24'-25' in St. Joseph for over a week. Nominal flood stage is 17' but nothing serious happens untill we hit 26'. As it stands now I won't be fishing off my favorite trail **** for four to six weeks provided we have a normal July.

i drove my 60 to indy for the Goodguys event. i don't have the soft top installed and i didn't want to use the hardtop so i took my cockpit cover. well...... it blew off! i had about 2" of water in the floor. i've got interior parts hanging everywhere drying. no real damage though. the locals weren't so lucky, there was water everywhere down there.

A forum member, Todd Gifford lives in Cedar Rapids, he was not affected, but he said it was and still is a bit scary. He was pleased with the local, state, and federal responce. Guess the feds can't afford another Katrina debocle. Bill.

I know of 4 vetts in this area that went under, two of them were members of our local club. We had close to 10 inches in less then 8 hours, this was after a week of on and off rains.

Luck for me that I live on kind of a hill so no damage here.

Okay, I have one that is almost too ridiculous to believe, but it's true. I fellow club member has a pond next to his home. He put his wife's C5 in a garage under his house when the rains began. By morning the water from the pond had risen up into his garage and engulfed his wife's car. He couldn't understand why the water came up. He had a 10" overflow tube that should have drained any excess water into a nearby ravine. He noticed that the water was not draining properly, and when the water level finally came down enough to check the overflow, he found a huge snapping turtle (10.5" diameter) plugging the tube. The Corvette is at a nearby dealership being checked for damage.
66BBDriver knows him.

6/16

I own a restaurant on the Iowa River in Coralville.
http://www.powercompanyrestaurant.com
We are a 100 year old power plant converted to a restaurant.
I was pumping water out of the sub basement Saturday with water 4 feet high around the paremeter of the building. I had 2- 2" submersible pumps and 1-4" gas pump. I was keeping up with the water till THEY SHUT OFF MY ELECTRICITY! Flood insurance doesn't cover squat. I lost about 60k in inventory and about 200k in heating and cooling units. Insurance covers 52k. I will hopefully enter the building tomorrow. We are still standing and from looks with my binoculars it is not in the main dinning area yet or our sports bar. We will get it back up and running.... God willing and FEMA loans. We are hardy folks here in Iowa. Bust my *** and get it done. I have a good staff and we are not afraid to work. My partner in the restuarnt (my wife) is very upset that we will not be able to pay our 70 employees for a while. It bothers me as well. This flood is a real shocker. It is coming over our reservoirs emergency spillway 6 feet! You can imagine.

Update 6/17
We got into the restaurant today. We had to walk in because the street in front is flooded. We have wet carpet in our lounge. Our main lower room by the water has 4 feet of water in it but the other 6 levels are dry. It is a little musty but not as bad as we thought, given the air conditioning/power has been off a few days now. Our sports bar and both kitchens were undamaged. Our building was an old power plant so our sub basement is almost 30 feet deep. I opened the door to the basement and the water was at the 2nd step from the top. We had most of our inventory down there. I noticed a sound like a water valve open....
I called the city to have the water shut off. I think out walk-in cooler must have floated off its base and broke a water line. All in all we are better off than expected.
We anticipate 2 to 3 months to get it back up and running. Baring any new substantial rain for extended periods. It is very surreal. A dam in front of the restaurant (the original hydro electric dam) typically has a fall of 30 feet. You can't even tell the dam is there it is straight accross! I will keep you guys posted. I have a lot of Corvette clubs that have day trips to the restaurant from all over the midwest. I miss them.

All 3 of my Vettes are high and dry.

Default We Are Open!!

This was a month and a half of the hardest I have ever worked in my life. 12-14 hour days with no days off. Back breaking demolition and new construction. But it is all paying off. We have been open 3 days now and sales are already at pre flood levels. I had a chance to drive my midyear yesterday, albeit only an hour till I got called back in to the restaurant to tweak the freezer. If any of you guys get to the area stop and say hi.
Thanks again for all of your emails and support.
