'53 - '55 steering wheel install
Does anyone have access to a good diagram they can post on steering wheel and horn kit install for a '53 - '55? The kit I got has really poor installation diagrams. Does not really show how it goes together. Thanks!

Give me a call. I'll be glad to help.
Steering wheel
Metal spring plate
Install spring contact in hole, 11 o'clock position.
Plastic disc
Three plastic spacers
Horn ring and screws through the plastic spacers
The center of the steering wheel must be clean of any paint. Must be metal touching the metal spring plate.

Brett, thanks, I may give you a call later today, please email best number to reach you to: malander@sbcglobal.net
I'm waiting for gauges to come back from Roger Scott / Corvette Instruments, then I'll fire it up! Chrome is out for plating, probably the single largest expense, more than the engine / trans rebuild... Interior is almost done, I'm working on door panels this weekend. I'm almost done, just a few things to go, just have to drop a battery in it and turn the key!

Mike-
Noland Adams published an article in the Solid Axle Corvette Club magazine - On Solid Ground regarding the horn installation (v9, #3). The vendors have made copies of copies of copies, and provide that with the horn kits. I posted a scan of the original article on my website:

I was able to get the horn working correctly on my 54 using the article, but I did have to fuss with it a bit. Just make sure you have the front wheels centered you put the wheel on - the notch in the steering column should be point up at Top Dead Center when the wheel goes on if memory serves me correctly (don't ask why I am emphasizing that here).
You should join the Solid Axle Corvette Club if you are not already a member. Great magazine for the C1 crowd.
