My original may be a good restore candidate but is it worth it... a new one is half the price of restore.thanks
I restored my original antenna 15-16 years ago then bagged it. I installed a $29 ($19 back then) jcwhitney antenna that collapses completely into the body of the car. It gets better reception in the down position than the original antenna gets in the up position.
I bought the so called "concours" antenna from Volunteer Vettes. Its pretty close to the original. The only difference between the "replacement" and the "concours" is the concours has the rings cut in at the top of each shaft and its stainless mast is buffed to a high shine. I believe the original mast was chrome plated. For the 20 bucks extra,I ordered the concours, and I have been happy with it.
