Default L-88 casting numbers

I'm sure this is total garbage but I ran into a old timer who says he has a L-88 motor out of a old covette. Said he bought it years ago when he raced at the old U.S. 30 drag strip. Says it's complete motor trans carb to pan. It's only 15 -20 miles from me so tomorrow I'll go see an old truck motor or something stupid and waste my time and gas. Anyway what numbers should I be looking for.
Cheers

the block is the same for any other 427 block. you are looking for the suffix code to end in IT

just an observation.Everyone seems to think that the old big block that they have or know someone has was a L88.Just like all of the old trannys are M22.As stated here all of the 427 depending on the different years had the same casting numbers weather 2 bolt or 4 bolt let alone a L88.L88 has a IT code stamped in it from the factory but of course if the motor has been decked then who knows

It should have 4-bolt mains, "Hi Perf Pass" in the area of the timing chain, an oil cooler bypass fitting above the oil filter location, in addition to the "IT" sufix, if not decked. I don't know all the casting numbers that are in the area of the bell housing on the drivers side, but mine is 3904351.

Let us know how it comes out.

Default I'll Help

Since you have no faith at all in the story, I will volunteer to go look for you and report my findings, uh, maybe. Just send me the location and I'll be glad to help!

Good luck and let us know what you find out.
